Just back from a week in Gran Canria. Every coffee I had anywhere there had a foul taste to it that I've never experienced anywhere else. Anyone know why this is?

I found the same thing when i went to Fuertaventura. I was told they use the turkish/greek style of making coffee...where they boil the coffee in a tiny stove-top pan, making it incredibly strong and thick. When it's done through an espresso machine the water/steam is only in contact with the coffee for a short time, but at high pressure, giving it a smooth, clean taste. But the stove-top style boils the coffee with the water, releasing more of the bitter oils.

It could be something to do with the water. As that area is volcanic it may be high in sulphur.
