I have a sony dcr-trv19e (pal) mini DV camera and I am trying to get it to connect up with my laptop via usb streaming (which it puports to support)

I am running windows xp home on a compaq presario 2000.

It won't register at all (ie no usb connect sound)

I have tried having Muvee Autoproducer open to see if it could connect to the video camera but it doesn't recognize it.

I have not dealt with any drivers yet (nor do I have any for the video camera) But even if I did wouldn't the computer need to first recognize that a new usb connected device has been connected before I need any drivers??

Thanks for your help

Have you checked to see that the USB out is switched on on the camera, I seem to remember I had to do something like this with my Sony (HC30E), can't remember exactly what but it was something like 'USB streaming' in the menus.

If you've got Firewire (IEEE1394) on the Compaq I would recommend getting a cable and going that way the difference in simplicity and performance over USB is amazing.

try this.

if using windows xp.

go to start, control panel, system, hardware device manager. open up the Universal serial bus controllers and delete all entries.

Restart the computer with the camera connected.

On restarting the computer will reinstall all the USBs and should find the camera.
