I have been experiencing harrasment on and off for about a year now with a man in a car driving past and shouting out homophobic abuse out of his car window. I have a note of his reg number and given it to a close friend just for security. I dont know him but he has a girlfriend who lives in the same block I have seen him occassionally getting into his car with her after it has been parked out overnight. This afternoon I saw the car enter the estate and it was from afar but again he honked his horn and shouted something I couldnt hear so I decided to enter the back of the block just in case he was at the front and he was there he muttered something and then drove off, as it was from afar he could have had her in the car and dropped her off at the back but I am now really paranoid he is after me and might know where I live but surely if he was going to do something he would have done it before now or got out of his car there and then. But this is beginning to bug me I am in two minds as to whether to report it to the police as he knows someone in my block and it could get worse but if ignore it could it get worse? I spoke to my friend this afternoon and she thinks it is just some idiot trying to have a laugh and to ignore it.

You are probably being paranoid and over-sensitive - you know that yourself.

But is there any history between you? Is there a reason that he has decided to bully you? Or is he horrible to everybody? Has it been the same guy all the time or just various prats thinking that they are funny?

He could just be a loud-mouth and a coward who picks on people that he feels like bullying or whom he considers to be weak.

Don't confront him - just try and laugh at him and not seem scared. He might just get bored.

I see that you have posted this again in another section (law) - you might get other answers there.

Be guided by your friend - she sounds like she knows you best.
It probably is some idiot trying to make themselves feel hard by yelling things from a safe distance, but you have nothing to lose in reporting it, at least then if it does escalate the police have a record of what has already happened. I wouldn't let it worry you to death ( I had a stalker too, not nice ) but you will feel better if you feel you've done something proactive about it like reporting it ( the police are pretty useless however).
whether the police are useless or not is opinion, just to report something however might just give the poster some feeling of security. People nowadays don't care who they insult or reel against, I feel sorry for anyone who's harassed by the rubbish that is out there today. Gordy, try to ignore if you can but just be aware of what goes on, note down times, dates and what happens at least you will have a log of such things. Good luck.
