Had a man been with a controlling woman and their children died in a similar way, would he be getting the same degree of sympathy?
It seems to me that there is always a sizeable number of people who will try to minimise a woman's invovement in crimes, had the Moors Murders happened now, I wonder what the public perception would have been?
At the end of the day, she stood by and let her children be murdered.

No of course he didn't intend to kill his children. He just meant to submit them to a terrifying ordeal, and then rescue them. So that's OK then.

Let me predict the outcome of the serious case review !

Nobody will be responsible and nobody will lose their jobs. A whitewash waiting to happen.
No one has said it's okay.

Just how horrible would Philpott have had to been before the Social Services actually got off their apses and did something ?
The children would have had to have abused and/or neglected.

No one could have predicted what he was going to do. You can't blame social services for not being psychics.

This isn't like the case of Baby P who was smeared in chocolate to cover his bruises.
Nobody will be responsible and nobody will lose their jobs. A whitewash waiting to happen.

Thats my prediction to mikey, we've seen it all before haven't we. whitewash enquirers.
There are sins of both 'omission' and 'commission'.

Mairead was guilty of the former by not intervening and stopping Mick's mad plan.

Mick was guilty of the later by going ahead with his crackpot scheme.

She is obviously a woman of low intelligence and self-esteem who deferred to her overbearing and bullying husband in *all* things. He was utterly convinced in his ability to carry out his cunning plan to a satisfactory (for him) conclusion and would brook no argument. This left her very little room to outwit him (even if she had the capacity).

There are many men who have mistresses (see Chatterbank and Body & Soul for details), and would doubtless be happy with the sort of Domestic set-up that Mick had (if they thought they could get away with it).

The children would have to have be seen to be in 'direct' danger or neglect for the Social Services to intervene......and despite the fact that Mick was a violent and bullying thug, I have seen no reports that his children were in any way mistreated by him.

I hope that they both serve their sentences, quietly and with acceptance. I also think that the longer Mairead is out of the sphere of influence from Mick that she will be able to tell the full story of what actually happened.
Exactly what I've been trying to say.

It's very easy for people to say that they would have put a stop to his wicked plan. Chances are no one would know what they would do as they have never had every bit of self respect, self confidence and self esteem knocked out of them.

Zebo - I agree that if it had been a domineered man peoples opinions would probably be different.

Jack. We already know "what actually happened" She assisted Philpott in an attempt to terrify her own children, the results of which is that all six died a horrible death. Not sure what else we need to know.
