I went to get some more Piriton fro Sainsbury's today. I have been using last years supply up to now. When I asked for non drowsy Piriton, I was told that you can no longer get them. Can anyone verify this?

Never heard of "non drowsy Piriton"
I'm not sure why. I bought non-drowsy Piriton for my son a few weeks ago and he now has non-drowsy Cetirazine Hydrochloride, which is the same thing.
I don't know about Piriton, but I used Asda's own brand of non drowsy antihistamines. [£2 for 30] They work ok for me.
pixie.....Piriton and Cetirazine are NOT the same thing.......both antihistamines, but different chemical makeup.
Isn't Piriteze non drowsy?

I use sainsbury's own loratidine, it's very cheap.
Ok, sqad. I was told they were the same by doctor, but that Piriton was a brand name - so more expensive. Perhaps she just meant they are both antihistamine
Robinia...yes.....but it is Cetirazine, NOT Piriton.
Cetirazine Hydrochloride can come in an non drowsy form. I was given some by the chemist. Got a non branded pack as well, the price of Piriton...... jeeeeez its almost worth just suffering!
I have non-drowsy cetirizine on prescription to take in the morning and was given Piriton (I think, what the GP said) to take before bed a while back as they were drowsy making ones, chror something the name on the bottle is.

So sqad, chlorphenamine maleate will always make you drowsy?

I had lost the box and am taking the tablets thinking that they are non drowsy ones. I think I have muddled up Loratadine (Claryityn) with Piriton.

No wonder I feel constantly exhausted.
I remember taking an antihistamine before a long day's hard graft at work, didn't realise it was a drowsy one, it was not a very pleasant day at all!
Both Boots and Sainsbury have told me they are no longer allowed to call them non drowsy. (more silly rules). I now get Loratadine 30 for £2 in Sainsbury.
Those who have been affected by drowsy antihistamines, in hindsight, would you rather have suffered the hayfever or allergic symptoms but feel awake?
Tilly.....Piriton may or may not make you drowsy....you have to try it.

problem with antihistamines is that the best,Piriton, Phenergan also have the most sedative effects....the ones that are non sedative tend not to have not so good an anti-allergic response.

Sod's Law eh?......
It might be the heat making you exhausted tilly. I've been nodding off quite a lot!

jd. I don't actually have hayfever. I have an allergic reaction to the sun. It is extremely uncomfortable.
Thanks, ubasses, for confirming what I was told.

Sqad, I suppose I could get round it by taking one at night as Eve has suggested. That sounds like a good plan.
Tilly.....yes, that would be fine.
