Can anyone tell me how to get my grandads birth certificate he was born in 1886 in Ramsbottom lane, thanks John C Hodges

To get the birth cert reference, go to:

freebmd.org.uk

and enter his details

That will give you a birth cert reference number, including the place his birth was registered (which might not be the same as the place he was born) together with the year and quarter it was registered, plus a volume and page number. Keep a record of that information, then go to:


http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/births/obtai ningbirthcertificates/index.asp

and use it to order the certificate online.

It will cost you �7.
Or, if you know which town Ramsbotton Lane was in you can contact the local Registry office. I often find this quicker than going through the national office.

You should find it here, i am guessing it is Ramsbottom lane in Ramsbottom though there was one in Bury.
