I have an Amazon Kindle and get all my books for it from Amazon. If my Kindle stopped working, what would happen to my many books? Would I be able to download them again from Amazon onto a new Kindle?

Yes
i assume like the kobo you have downloaded them using an email address, not sure if like the kobo you can sare them on up to 5 devices but you should have them on your host laptop at least. if the kindle has stopped do a soft reset, failing that do a master reset, have you put a tablet security software on it?
it's a kindle dotty, it's not kobo
yes i know, nothing like as flexible, no open platform and no security built in. still should be able to do at the very least a soft reset
My sister-in-law has a Kindle and is the sort of person who can get confused by a lightswitch. Her kindle got its knickers in a knot over whether it was in the UK or Ireland and as a result would not download new books. She telephoned Amazon, got through to someone really quick and they sorted it out there and then. But first I had to explain to her how to telephone the UK.
oh yes amazon will sort it quick sticks, they make no money on the devices only on the ebooks and without a device you can't buy their ebooks,
I'm sure there is a limit as to how many times you can own load purchases though. I had mine downloaded to my 3rd kindle (previous 2 broke), iPad, iPhone etc and got an error message that I had used all my licensed copies (or something like that) when I tried downloading to a further device.
