Under the new science curriculum evolution will be taught in primary schools.

How will faith schools that currently teach creationism deal with this?

Octavius, when did I ever - or would ever - say that evolution was a product of the absurd idea of intelligent design? if I did I'd better take my nectar with more tonic.

Thanks Mibs.
Does it matter whether or not they teach evolution? The fact that they are faith schools means that the basis for their raison d'etre is fairy story nonsense.

Micky, //Its been 45 years since I was in school and that was a Catholic one but I don't remember being told that the creationist story was truth.//

This from Wiki. /// In the 1950 encyclical Humani generis, Pope Pius XII confirmed that there is no intrinsic conflict between Christianity and the theory of evolution, provided that Christians believe that the individual soul is a direct creation by God and not the product of purely material forces. Today, the Church supports theistic evolution(ism), also known as evolutionary creation.//

I think it's imperative to teach children the truth.
Sorry to use a hacknied phrase but it depends on what you mean by "evolution". Re: Darwinism I think only in terms of "survival of the fittest" and "origin of species". I believe in the former but do not believe the mechanics of origin of species is all sown up. I tend towards catastrophic origin of species e.g. mutation via radiation or other radical changer of DNA. The one area I sympathise with the jehovahs witnesses is the failure of archeological evidence. Only evidence of new, whole species and their disappearence is found.
I hope evolution in any school debates this.
But faith schools bring resonances of the notorious Scopes Trial in the States.
Anyway, when I was at state grammar school Religious (mis)Education was part of our week.Thankfully the guy in a dog-collar did not preach religion. He just got us to read aloud from autobiographies of travellers in the middle east. I think (hope?) he was a closet atheist or scared of the flak he would get from us.
