I am looking for a new computer and have been offered a Sony VAIO RX407 PC by a colleague which fits all the specifications I need. I asked him how much he would want and he said he was open to offers so at what price should I start!? I have no idea how much this is worth (he seems to think 500 - 600 but I cannot find proof of that) but I only really wanted to spend 400. What price is reasonable for this computer?

If it's the standard spec (P4 2.5, 512Meg RAM, 120Gig Drive) then really with a screen he shouldn't be asking for more than about 300...especially if it's out of warranty as if it breaks you have no come back.

You can pickup a similar spec Dell for 400 and that comes with a warranty so see if he will take 300.

Yes, it is the standard spec, plus a 17" monitor and a full version of Photoshop and Fireworks and Office and I have managed to get him to say 300 for the lot so I think I will go ahead and buy! Thanks guys.
300 is pretty good...Sony's are nice..go for it.
