Hi, my GSD had an operation on her spine a month ago. She was diagnosed with DDD and the next day had this major operation. The recovery period was given as 4 weeks, during that time limited walks around the garden were advised. Although my vet says it's still early days she is dragging her left leg a great deal more than she was a week ago if I'm honest. I wasn't given any instructions about physiotherapy at home and in view of the huge wound to her back didn't try and do any. I am going to speak to my vet again tomorrow but I am thinking she is only going to say the same thing about time etc. Has anyone else had an experience with this operation and how long did it take before your dog began to show signs of walking improvement. I realise each case is different but I would like to know whether I am worrying unnecessarily. I am not in my native country and to be honest don't feel the medical care where I am is quite as good as in the UK, just my opinion so don't want to get into any arguments about that one!

I suggest you contact Dorothy Cullum who is on the GSD Health Group, she may well be able to give you some advice or put you in touch with someone who can. http://www.cermar.co.uk/GSD_Owners_Info.htm
