They say that living with a cat is good for your health. I dispute this - wake up calls at silly o'clock and there is a cat currently head-butting me and screaming in my ear.

This picture doesn't help

Why is it cats always vomit in places where it creates maximum work?

Because they can :)
Thats very cruel daffy but also very funny lol.
Pepper got her revenge with the vomiting today Tony, I really don't deal well with puke and there was only me here to clean it up :(
lol @ ferlew.
Well daffy, thats one thing that most cats seem to be very good at isn't it, bloody throwing up at will !.
My Barney (now deceased) was the most beautiful Prussian Blue cat ever seen. I made a Christmas cake and left it to cool on the worktop. He ate nearly a quarter of it when I was out shopping. Then threw up all night. I didn't know my baking was that bad.
I had a tortie called Shelley, now deceased, she loved bringing frogs home to mummy, they scream when they are caught, I used to live in a bungalow and she would bring them to me in bed through the window at night. When we moved house I found a dead one at the back of a wardrobe.
Mine catches lizards and always eats the back half so I have half a lizard crawling about. Their innards are like 2 sweet corn.
