My front door is wooden & bit shabby!!

I cant afford a UPVC door at moment?

Its chipped paint and looks like a good few layers- if i used a paint stripper on it & repainted would that work? Or am i better off just painting it
Currently white- tempted to go black- looks less scabby i think x

How bad is it? If it's just a few chips on an edge then I'd be tempted just to rub those down as smooth as you can then give the whole thing a light sanding and repaint. If there's a lot of damage then you are better off getting a heat gun and stripping as much as you can then sand or use paint stripper and wire wool to clean it up before painting.
You could try just filling the chips, Tinker. Use a paste type filler (where you add a hardener.) Regular powder fillers will probably get knocked off again.
