The UK and Germany are reported to have blocked EU comissioners plans to cap payouts to the largest Agri-business farms under the Common Agricultural Policy

What would happen if we just swept away the CAP?

Would all our farmers be on the dole? Would food be massively more expensive?

Or would life just go on?

annoying the way AB's headline style turns question headlines into rubbish, isn't it?

I think the CAP was originally formulated to help small farmers rather than big ones. In fact the whole EU was formulated to protect French farmers and German industry and tie the countries together so they could never afford to go to war again.

But as with most things it's been taken over by the wealthy for their own ends.
Nearly 50% of all EU expenditure is spent on agriculture. And 50% of all that money goes to the wealthiest countries, France, Germany, UK etc.

Those Conservative voting Shires should be happy this free EU money is staying in their communities.
so only conservatives are farmers, work in agriculture...
