Tonight's Sky News reports that the Girl Guides have decided to change their oath. Gone is any reference to God, being true to myself and my beliefs being substituted, and to my country, my community being substituted. However Guides will still swear allegiance to the Queen, their patron. Is the removal of any allegiance to your country a foolish step? Community suggests a divisiveness which we should be at pains to stop.

and i don't see much in Syrians running off to fight Assad, those born here, or who live here, nor indeed many who have no allegiance to Britain whatsoever. People pulled together in both wars for the common good, because had we not, the likelihood would for many have been annihilation
What a brilliant post by Sqad, yes yet another dilution of our culture so as to pander to the minorities, by those amongst us who spend their lives thinking of new things that may be offensive to the minorities.

A message to all those who show no allegiance whatsoever to the God or their country, you have not made this a better place to live, things where much better when we as a nation respected those two things.

/// No. I applaud their move. Girls leading the way again, it seems. Scouts are still dithering over the reform of their Pledge/Promise. ///

"Girls leading the way again", what a sexist comment to make, if they are "leading the way" as you put, how is it that the Boy's Scouts, are the first to not only change their name buit also invite girls to become members?

"things where much better when we as a nation respected those two things [God & country]."

Interesting. When was that?
@AoG wrt the change in the pledge to ensure widest participation and least exclusion, which is what the post is about- explain how my comment about girls leading the way is even remotely sexist? You do understand what is meant by the term sexist, right?

As to your other comments about God and country-it's a subjective thing whether "things were better then",& fits very well with your usual nostalgic myopia. The speedier gods demise, the happier humanity will be, and this simplistic "my country right or wrong" nationalism you usually swaddled yourself in is simplistic drivel.

All in all an entirely average AgO post offering nothing of substance, based upon misapprehension , fear of change, and nostalgic yearnings for a 1950s Britain, where the beer was warm, cricket was played on the village green, women knew their place and immigrants, especially the duskier variety were all but non- existent
LOL

AOG,please explain how being an atheist makes this country a worse place to live. Do you think that a country of atheists (or agnostics) is worse than one which has a vast majority of believers? If so, why?
