Hi
does anyone know why my cat frequently scratches/paws at the kitchen floor(much in the way they make their toilets outdoors)?
This has been happening ever since she was neutered.
I'd swear she has a purposeful look in her eye!
I'm worried that she might be in some distress.

my tomcat does this also. It appears to be when he doesnt like something (in particular his food). Is your cat near her food when she does this?
Cat's do this to cover their food or drink, or anything that gives off a scent. Sometimes dominant cats don't bother, but a submissive cat would.

She does it near food, and another thing, she's one of two strays, both females. The other who is either her sister or daughter doesn't have this habit but is HUGE next to this kitty.
It could be as Ava says, given that kitties are so territorial.
Thanks for the prompt replies.

Hi, I have two female cats, they both do this but one more than the other, i thought the same about the food thing, as she paws the wall with both front paws one after the other near her food bowl, but now she does it on the washing machine when its going round and also the silver bin that she can see herself in ! Nothing to worry about, it makes me laugh more than anything, but they've always done it

Cheers everyone. I thought she may be 'disturbed' in some way. I hadn't seen this behaviour before, always surrounded by cats growing up.
