It's Xp. Have only ever done this once before and that was quite a long time ago. Any tips to help me avoid getting into difficulties would be very welcome. Thanks.

Make sure you have backed up all of your files and that you have all the CD's required for setting it all up again.

Good luck.
Reinstalling Windows is fairly easy. It's reinstalling all of the device drivers that can be a real pain!

Before reinstalling, go into the Device Manager (from Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware) to note down the details of any devices that you may need the drivers for. If you've not got the relevant CDs, find and download the necessary driver set-up files and store them on external media. After reinstalling, go into the device manager to look for an exclamation marks alongside a device (which will indicate missing drivers).

Remember that you ideally need to reinstall from a disk with XP + SP3 on it. Otherwise you'll need to download SP3 from here:

Thanks everyone. I'll let you know how I get on.
+1 for the double driver link. If you don't back them up properly there's always one or two you can never find again. Any decent driver backup softeware will save you hours of pain.
