Have had a filthy cough for over a couple of weeks - nasty spasming attacks and not a lot of sleep most nights. Getting worse rather than better & the sheer mechanical battering from all the hacking has upset my stomach fairly badly too :(

Amoxicillin didn't seem to do much and course ended a week or so ago.

Saw GP again today - diagnosis was that any infection has passed, but inflammation is 'feeding on itself' in a vicious circle (I'm paraphrasing wildly, but I hope you know what I mean).

Omeprazole 40mg first thing for stomach problems & then 30mg prednisolone an hour later with breakfast - for 5 days to start with.

Am I likely to get any steroid side-effects in such a short course?

Thanks sqad - much appreciated

I've got the same thing, now into its ninth week. My GP says he'll give me a steroid treatment when I see him... in another week or two...

Phoned surgery at 11:30am - called back by triage GP at 11:35am - appointment to see my GP of choice at 16:30pm.

How the NHS should be (but sadly isn't always) ...
Excessive thirst is the worst side effect you will get with a short course of prednisolone.
Hi Dave if it's now a non productive cough...maybe you could try Pholcodine..Not sure what Sqad thinks about this...but I've used it in the past and it seems to have worked for me. Hope you get better soon x

Thanks daffy - very useful info.

Thanks mazie - I think its beyond Pholcodine now (although I have used it in the past and it can be effective for the 'right sort of cough')
Aww sorry Dave... :o(
My doctor told me that for a non productive cough just take codeine. It worked. I love him.
