what exactly is a "studio album"- as opposed to one that isnt a "studio album"? i thought that all albums are produced in a studio anyway

Most albums are studio albums, the exception being live albums, which aren't.

Greatest Hits albums aren't technically studio albums because they not completely made of original material.
