my 1 year old has really dry skin on his cheeks.. its not flakey, it just loks really tight, rough to the touch and sort of shiny. Iv tried sudo cream, vaseline and aqueus, but its still there. I dont want to make it worse by using products, but i think i should be doing something. Any hints. TY

make sure he drinks as much water as possible. if none of the creams you've listed have worked, then it's probably more likely to be fixed by increasing his water (or milk) consumption. it's only a bit of dry skin, so unless it bothers him at all, I'd let his body sort it out without resorting to creams etc.

Has it just appeared since it has been colder? My 18 month old has had a similar problem in the cold weather, isn't too bad when we are indoors but gets worse if we go out.

I just tend to use the same things that you have mentioned, but am assuming it will clear up once the weather gets better as he hasn't had it before. As long as it isn't anywhere else on his body then I wouldn't worry too much.

yeah, i agree with the others...its this time of year and not really alot you can do about it except keep the skin moisturised. Also central heating doesnt do your skin any favours, the newer your house is the dryer our skins will be too!! hahaha. A simple tip to prevent the atmospher drying out too much is put small bowl of water near a radiator...just will help a little, few drops of lavender oil is always nice too to add to the water :o)

This was the first sign of eczema for my daughter - her face became increasingly dry and flaky at around 8 months and this gradually extended to her arms and legs.

Am not suggesting that this is the case with your son but may be worth getting it checked out if it doesn't improve shortly.

Good luck!

Thankyou all for your help. I think your right about the cold weather. I think I will just make sure he gets lots of water, keep the heating down and just keep an eye on it. Its my first time on AB, and its great!! Iv got lots more questions.. I hope you all dont mind!!!
This was how my son's fac was at a similar age and it was due to eczema. We found that the best cream for it was Unguentum Merck, which we bought from the pharmacy (not prescription). It was the only thing that really worked. But this was 23 years ago and I don't know if you can still get it.
my son has the same problem,a small patchy dry mark on his skin, since birth.i tried a few things, but what ive found to work is e.45 cream, for acne, dermitis, dry skin etc.only apply a small amount, and make sure it is rubbed in.obviously each child is different,dis-use immediately if any side affects occur.hope this helps.
try a lip balm the ones like lipsticks also good for sore noses when you have got a bad cold just dont use the same one for your nose as your lips yuk!
