Slade have had 6- Coz I Luv You, Take Me Bak 'Ome, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, *** on Feel the Noize, Skweeze Me Pleeze Me and Merry Xmas Everbody.

Rod Stewart has had 7- Maggie May, You Wear It Well, Sailing, Tonight's the Night (Gonna be Alright), I Don't Want to Talk About It/The First Cut is the Deepest (Double A-side), Do Ya Think I'm Sexy and All For Love (with Bryan Adams and Sting)

Therefore, Rod Stewart is the answer.

Thank you robbo82. Did Python Lee Jackson have a number one with "In a Broken Dream"?

No, it got to number 3 in 1972.
Question Author
Thankyou robbo82 - I knew I was right about Rod Stewart having the most No.1's against Slade. Just wasn't too sure if it was 7 or 8.

Sorry, have to disagree with you, robbo82 - All For Love didn't make No 1 in the UK. Therefore the answer is that they both had 6 No 1s in this country.

However, Rod Stewart did have 4 No 1s in the USA, Slade none, so I guess in a sense he is the winner...

I stand corrected. It was number 1 in America, not Britain. Thanks delboy3. It is indeed six-all then.
Question Author
Oh well, thanks guys. At least 6-all isn't an outright win for Slade so although I don't win the bet, I don't lose either.

From the latest Guinness Book of hit singles and albums, Rod Stewart No 1's

Maggie May - Sept 1971

You Wear It Well - Aug 1972

Sailing - Aug 1975

I Don't Want To Talk About It - Apr 1977

Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? (Er no, not really, Rod) - Nov 1978

Baby Jane - Jun 1983

Tonight's The Night only made No 5, in June 1976

But he also had seven No 1 albums, as against Slade's three. So a moral victory anyway.
