I would like to visit the open air museum at Beamish. Unfortunately i do not drive so could anyone advise what would be the nearest town where i could get B&B or a hotel? It would need to be near a train station so i could travel up from Kent and then on a bus route or something so i could get to the museum. We do have coach trips from my area but they all only have a day at the museum and then move onto other things im not interested in seeing. Thanks in advance

Durham or Newcastle sound your best bet

The nearest town is Stanley, however I am sure it would be good idea to get the train to Durham and perhaps there might be local buses going to Beamish. Durham is well worth a visit alone (the cathedral is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world). Do you want me to find out more?

Oh, and thanks for the offer Marky B but im going to check out the site dzug has posted but if i get stuck - then im coming back for you!!

chester le street is the nearest train station (taxi to beamish would be about 8 pound) and there are a couple of pubs right next to beamish (the shepherd and shepherdess being one) which i believe offer accomodation.

Enjoy
