Robert Goddard - "Out of the Blue" is fantastic!
All Robert Goddards books are fantastic.. he is a mystery writer and master of the "twist in the tale" but if you want courtroom drama and lawyers and stuff try
The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connolly.
Anything by Richard North Patterson and the Billy Bob Holland series by James Lee Burke..
Bitterroot
Heartwood
Cimarron Rose
In the Moon of Red Ponies.
In fact anything by James Lee Burke ..one of my favourite authors. He writes so passionately about the deep south of America you actually think you are out on the bayou with the characters , although they are murder mysteries.
This is his website

Agree anything by Michael Connelly is good! Also Harlen Coben [sp] is Ok but he is a bit of a 'smug git' in my opinion!
When I read your question, I thought right away of Michael Connolly as well. Read a good novel by Kathy Reichs not long ago too, Death du Jour. Oh, and Elmore Leonard, if you haven't read any of his stuff, you're in for a treat. Just a few to keep you going.
Yes I quite agree auntiebertie..not keen on Harlen Coben myself.
Chinadoll ..a really good website is

I use this all the time to see what books my favourite authors are bringing out. It gives you all the latest books in any genre with a potted history of authors etc.
Kathy Reichs is great.. snook. ....I have to confess..I have a murder mystery fetish !!

i read a lot of grisham - usually happily so guess anything i read might be interesting to you so suggest you try gerald seymour - not exactly the same but riveting and also a very good read is carl hiaasen - descriptive, intriguing and fun!

i dont know if u do read his books but have u tried ian rankin? not so long ago finished reading his first 3 books about rebus was really really good would recommend him to anyone. also andy mcnab is really good too and james patterson - along came a spider is an excellent read with a great twist
Michael connelly, Harlen Coben who I love but also Lee Child Jack Reacher is a great character
I enjoy John Grisham and Michael Connelly too,and another great American author is Lawrence Saunders. Particularly, his Edward X Delaney detective novels, which feature the Deadly Sin series.I always love the detail he uses when describing the sandwiches he makes!

i have discovered a couple of writers that i wish id found sooner. karin slaughter is good reading as is jeaffrey deaver{especially lincoln rhyme novels}.jilliann hoffman has only written 2 or 3 but definatly a must

I agree with most of the previous suggestions especially Robert Goddard. Have you tried Linda Fairstein?
