Older Laptop Not Connecting To Bt Infinity

an older laptop I have, windows xp, will not connect wirelessly to bt infinity hub. Any ideas on what I am doing/not doing correctly?

and if wireless connection not possible, what kind of cable would I need?

You could buy one of these..RJ45 Cat5e UTP Ethernet Network Patch Cable Lead ADSL and connect straight from the router to your laptop.You can get 50 metre of cable or whatever lenght you might need.This lenght costs £6 from ebay. Good luck..bestdriver
Make sure you've got the latest service pack (service pack3) for XP installed, XP without service pack 2 or later can't connect to wireless networks with WPA security.

You can check the service pack by right clicking on "my computer" either on the desktop or the start menu and selecting properties.

I am of course assuming that the laptop actually does have a wireless network card in it.
