I have now completely given up on it and if Derek Jacobi has any sense he'll wait a discreet while and try to get all trace of it removed from the earth. What possessed him to do such a load of utter rubbish?
Dreadful! Switched over after about 2 minutes. Such a shame that such excellent actors will apear in this drivel.

im glad I didn't bother watching the second episode . what a waste of talent :(
BBC4 are currently repeating I Claudius with Derek Jacobi in it.

Far better to watch him in that (and John Hurt and Patrick Stewart) than this current awful "comedy" show.

Guy Siner was in I Claudius the other week, he played the "gay" German officer in Allo Allo who fancies Rene.
It really is dire, isn't it? Such a disappointment from a great (in anything else) cast.
Thanks Sipowicz.

So - can they ditch this, and show us what the audience were watching when they recorded the canned laughter - they are obviously having a better time than anyone at home sitting through this.

I disagree with the reviewer, who is desparate to find something to like about this tosh, and digs through to Australia in a (failed!) attempt to find it.

Either you empathise with characters, be they drama or comedy, or you don't, and who on earth could empathise with a couple of nasty old queens with no (they are not there, so don't bother looking for them!) redeeming qualities whatever.

The notion that this is a long-term loving relationship which transcends the sneer nastiness of the stereotypical gay sniping, which is supposed to pass for pathos and wit here - is simply groundless because it's clear that none of the actors believe the guff coming out of their mouths.

I hope each of them get a seven-figure fee with residuals for this - they can count the money while they weep over their shattered artistic judgement and dented-beyond-repar reputations as actors of repute.
