The Times reports that a youth commissioner is sought at £10,000 more than young Paris was offered. However A levels are desirable, but not essential. Still no explanation to why any are needed. Can you see any need?

No.
Didn't Janet Street-Porter used to be something for 'yoof'...............she was rubbish as well.
I really cannot see the need for all this expenditure on Commissioners of any kind, we are supposed to be cutting back but this Police Commissioner farce is bent on spending more and more money that we can't afford. We could have had more Police officers with the money instead. It seems obvious that the Government have given this over to the local County Councils to get us to pick up the tab for all this through our Council Tax bills.
none
I have a few issues about PCCs, and this represents one of them.

As best I can tell to date, they are accountable to a small oversight committee when justifying their police and crime plan, and ultimately i suppose to the public every 4 years or so.

But in the interim - There is currently no obligation to publish their expenses, for instance, and the mechanism for financial accountability - how they spend their budget, who they recruit etc - is opaque, with no requirement that they publish who they recruit,or why. So one can imagine they might well hire advisory staff based upon personal relationships etc.

And the timing of this seems odd- given all the furore over the recent Youth PCC down at Kent, it would seem odd that Cheshire wish to go ahead and employ one, especially at £10,000 a year more than Paris Whateverhernamewas was getting down in Kent.

And no, i do not see the need for a paid position as a "youth liason" or "youth ambassador"...
I can only see the usefulness of it if the appointed person actually has some insight and possibility of meaningful input, I'm not at all convinced they will sao no seems to be a waste of £25k.
The problem is that as we saw with Paris when confronted with what youth do there is immediate reaction.

Surely this is what they do need to realize, how many young people do see things. Maybe they are not right in what they do, but they do it and the idea of this commission is to discover this. But as I say when we do discover that the truth is rather ugly and does not fit in with the right-on trendy way we expect out Police Force, sorry 'Service' to be portrayed all hell is let loose and we once again take th ostrich approach.
The reason is simple.

The government, and its offshoots regard 'young people' as some sort of alien species with whom they cannot communicate. That said, communicationis necessary, so they can see about securing some votes, so who better to communicate with 'young people' than a 'young person' - 'one of their own' so to speak?

This means they can tell their tame 'young person' what to say to other 'young people' in their own incomprehensible language, and because it comes from a 'young person, the 'young people' will accept that message.

There is the small fly in the ointment that being a 'young person', their chosen representatitve runs the risk of being every bit as immature, stupid, under-developed, infantile, and generally hard-of-thinking as the 'young people' they think they need to reach - but never let previous experieince put you off making the same mistake again for more money.

Next week, I'm going to tell you how being short-sighted means I am going to speak at the National Opticians' Conference - what other qualification do I need?

Hope this clears up any confusion.
I can vaguely imagine politicians, by Andy-Hughes's description, as being Trunchbull-like figures. "Young People, huh? Glad I never was one!"
One thing I never understood with Paris was, apart from her bizarre hair do, was how on earth did she get the name Paris in the first place ? Isn't that the name of a city in France ?

I met someone today that called her little girl Cheyanne. She had an older sister called Lexie. When I asked what Lexie was short for, the parents didn't know ! Not as daft as Chardonnay I suppose. On the news tonight was a story about Michael Jackson's kids and one is called Blanket apparently. I am glad that he didn't use the names of any other commonplace household objects, like Saucepan or Vacuum Cleaner.

What drives people to call their kids by such silly names ?

Hilton, mikey. Any suggestion that that's meant , illiterately, to be short for Parasite, is out of order. Why Miss Hilton is called Paris is not known to me; should read Hello when I'm under the dryer.
Thanks Fred...Does anyone have the slightest idea why Jackson's son was called Blanket, other than his father was an American of course...that bit goes without saying.
The child's name is Prince Michael Jackson II - 'Blanket' is a childhood nickname.
OK, so why was he called PRINCE when he is clearly not related to the crowned heads of Europe ?
I wonder if there's any connection between 'Blanket' Jackson and Robert 'Downie' Junior.
Question Author
mikey, Prince must because Michael Jackson didn't want to show disrespect to the memory of King Gillette, of razor blade fame. He didn't care about Duke Ellington, though (or Earl Hines, come to think of it).
Since this vacancy is being advertised in the county for which I pay my council tax, I am severely unimpressed. This salary is more than many people earn. The Police Commissioner is doing herself no favours.

I know the salary is pro rata but Paris' salary was being paid from the PC's own budget, I wonder if this one is too.
