i know a cd's speed is variable but what is the fastest and slowest a cd spins?

CD-ROM 500-200rpm.

DVD-ROM 1600-570rpm.

Multiple read/write speeds (2x, 4x, 24x, 60x, etc.) can exceed 10,000rpm.
