The mother of the Boston bombing suspects says she doesn't believe her sons carried out the marathon attacks.

Now I am aware grief does strange things, but does she really believe her kids had nothing to do with it?

Just how does she explain them being armed to the teeth and having shootout with the Yank Plod?

Unbelievable.

Maybe she means that they are not the same people who she brought to america, hence the second part where she claims that the US took her sons away. What chance do you thing the father has of getting into the states after his statement:
The brothers' father, Anzor Tsarnaev, told reporters he would be travelling to the US. He said: "I am going to the United States. I want to say that I am going there to see my son, to bury the older one. I don't have any bad intentions. I don't plan to blow up anything."
Banging the table as he spoke, he said: "I am not angry at anyone. I want to go find out the truth."
I actually feel very sorry for them. They are as much victims of their sons as the people they killed. Imagine how you'd feel if your two sons did this?
Have you seen all the wooly conspiracy theories being bandied about? I have friends that genuinely believe them.
There's a great line in the film American Beauty - "Never underestiamte the power of denial ..." and it is absolutely true.

In all walks of life, people will themselves to believe that dreadful things have not been done by those they love because if they can cinvince themselves that something dreadful did nothappen by their loved one(s)' hand, they don't have to face up to it, and deal with it.

I would find it next to impossible to conceive of a child I loved and raised doing something like this - so maybe a little sympathy and understanding would be appropriate here.
Seems like perfectly normal behaviour to me - the reaction of the mother that is.
She possibly has to believe, for her sanity. Otherwise she would only blame herself. Which is never healthy. Such intense guilt can be so self-destructive. Maybe in time she wil come to terms with it -- but, for now, I'd let her alone about this.
who ever believes their child has done something wrong, until they have incontrovertible proof. She is in denial because the act was barbaric, and they are the children she has borne, so it's quite understandable she would say this, until the police, forensics prove their innocence/guilt.
