I remember my dad having one in his car.
Certainly do. I had one in my MG 1300.Much better sound than cassettes.I vividly recall a run on the brand new M54 motorway to Telford and swaying from lane to lane (almost no other vehicles in sight) to full volume of the Blue Danube Waltz through the four speakers.
my BF at the time had one in the XJ6, we played the City of Angels tape by The Miracles over and over again, also had Yellow Brick Road and Rita Coolidge, problem was the tapes would spool out quite alot, i worked in a record store and Joe Royale used to buy his 8 tracks there and he had great taste in music but his car player used to spew out the tape quite alot.
Saw one at a car boot sale the other week, I quickly had to head off my hubby 'at the pass' because if he had seen it.......I had to keep on reminding him we were there to get rid of junk - not to obtain more
Yes I remember them, the Jenson Interceptor had them fitted as standard equipment.
harry moss!!
I remember them well. I took one apart once to try and work out how they kept on going round without rewinding or turning over. Clever things the were.
we had one at home, but not in the car
In my competition phase several decades ago I actually won a Sharps 8 track tape player.

Managed to follow that up a few years later by winning a whole car! An MG Metro Turbo.
