Giveup when I retire although I'd love to volunteer in a charity shop the bargains would be too tempting!!
I got a good deal at a garage sale, and I wasn't even there! A friend of mine bought a box of hockey memorabilia (cards, signed pucks, etc), and in the bottom of the box was a pocket watch with a broken crystal; he said I could have it for $20. It turned out to be an 18S open-faced Ingrahm made in 1893. It just needed a replacement crystal and is keeping good time...What a great deal for me!
We're always looking for volunteers.

that was a good buy stewey !

Yes it was, Mallyh. The new glass cost me $30, and I know enough about watches to give it a few "tweeks" and a miniscule oiling in order to get it running. I felt a little guilty about the low price of $20 I gave him; but, hey, that's what he wanted for it.
I love carboot sales, they're like a religion in our household- I buy my vintage clothes from there and my brother shut his antique shop last spring and traded solely larger carboots and antiques fairs, so I often go with him too. Can't wait for the good weather.Love it.
Yep, a great source of old SLR cameras and M42 screwfit lenses.
Yes! I get lots of my lenses for my Sony's there too, the old Minolta glass is outstanding for a few pounds each:)
I go to charity stores and buy quartz clocks for about $2. Then I take them apart and keep the movements and hands. With these I make novelty clocks out of old LPs and sell them for $40...Not bad.
Sharingan - is it micro 4/3?
I've been looking out for Russian glass, Takumars and Zeiss - got a fantastic Zeiss Jena 135mm recently and now finding that out of about fifteen M42s and three modern Canon AF lenses, it's one of the best!

hope you sell loads desktop ,your clocks sound good stewy, and like you sharigan i prefer the hot days
Happy hunting everyone!
Any of the Minolta A mount lenses will fit the new Sony DSLR's. I shoot with an A900 and an A700 precisely so I could buy top end lenses for a fraction of the price. There's a complete list here of all Sony and Minolta fit lenses and the older Minolta's can be picked up for virtually nothing, even the really nice Carl Zeiss glass:)
