jedimistress, You would be well advised to apply a cleansing agent ( as manufactured by Fernox, or Sentinel ) to your system when re-filling. Application instructions will be supplied with the product.

Also, inspect the system thoroughly as it is filling, just in case of any possible leaks.

You could just fill the system without the above, but after a period of over a year there could be scale in the radiators, which could find its way into the boiler, causing problems.

Thanks. I will try to find out how to refill. I noticed some troubleshooting guides on the back of the boiler. Still no luck with lighting it, but I haven;t really tried as I havenlt turned the water on yet.....it is the Gem one I asked about.

Thanks a lot pilotlight.

...em - can I suggest a plumber???

Really - the damage you could do if you ****** this up doesn't bear thinking about

I think it would be well worth you getting a heating engineer in to refill and check it over thoroughly. Apart from the radiators needing venting there will be other parts that need experience to vent properly, free off the pump and sort out any leaks that may have developed.

Thanks. I called out a Heating Engineer who gave me quote I died at. I called out a couple more since to try to beat his quotes. They already knocked 200 off without even looking. (Like for like, not cheaper brands of boilers) The engineer said I need a new part but he would recomend a new boiler in case there were more problems than just the part.
