1. At a command prompt type ipconfig and it will give you your IP address. (Only valid if you are not using a router to connect to the internet, otherwise you only get your LAN address)

or

2. Phone you ISP and ask if you are on Static or Dynamic IP.

or

3. If using a router then it is the router that has the internet IP so look at the config of this to see how it is set. (Dynamic or Static).
Click start then run, and type 'cmd'. Then type ipconfig at the prompt, and press enter. It should give you your ip address. A day or whatever later try it again, and see if it's different.
If you are on dynamic, it might remain the same for a couple of weeks then change very day fro a few days, so you simply can't count on it.

Thank you all.

I did the cmd thing, and it gave me an IP address, a subnet mask, and a default gateway. Any idea what these things are and which should change?

Thanks!

Oh and I am using a router.
Only the IP address changes regularly, when you have an Dynamic IP. To know whether your Internet service provider provides Static (or) Dynamic IP address, visit the site http://www.ip-details.com . Just reset (or) unplug the modem you are using. Again switch on the modem back and check the same site. If your IP address differs from the previous one, it is Dynamic IP. No changes happens (or) remains the same IP address, its nothing but Static IP. You can make a request to change your static IP through Internet service provider.
