In the news today...Post Office to start new current account.
I have a distinct feeling of deja vue. We used to have a bank in every Post Office and it was called Girobank,
It was started in 1968, by the Labour Government under Wilson. In the 1970's 25% of all money deposited into UK banks when into Girobank, which is remarkable when you consider all the big High St beasts that were around then. It was hugely popular. But Thatchers government closed it down and stole all the proceeds.
How long will this new bank be around before a future Tory government will privatise it again ?
