Dental charges! Why so high??

Is it me or do others think the same?? Us Brits are having the p..ss taken out of us by dentists! I mean hang on a moment £180.00 for this £160 for that. O yea, and £400 for the other. All of which is done in half an hour or so!
Just what the f…k are they playing at? Lets look at some figures shall we..
It takes 5 years to train to be a dentist. It took me the same to become a qualified electrician.
A dentist mainly deals with just one thing teeth. As a tradesman I have thousands of different situations I have to be prepared for and deal with.
Also pro rata I should be charging £3k and more a day at dentist rates!!
I also have a responsibility for peoples health, and in particular often peoples lives!!
If I make a mistake on a rewire and burn the house down god forbid, lives could be lost.
It just makes me angry that these people can act as gods because they know there is jack all we can do without them. Comments appreciated.

Mmm! The last comments appear to suggest that my source of prices is unreliable! My son for example was charged £400.00 for some work that took 1 hour. Work that out pro rata!!
I wouldn’t like to say he was unreliable or lying. As for “everyone wants the best job they can get” All I can say is well perhaps you may think so, however this is not always the case.
I worked in a voluntary capacity for Mencap for 15 years. I have also worked as a casual support worker with people with learning difficulties. I have cleaned up mess from both ends if you know what I mean! I have also worked as a part time teacher in IT. However it always been to help others less fortunate than me. Dentists who work just in the private sector and not for the NHS have one motivation in common MONEY!! Sorry to break your bubble.

Yep, I've done all that too. I worked in day centres and special schools for years before I did my degree. I have also run poetry and writing workshops for the mentally ill, without pay. And whilst I did it, on my student grant and supported by my husband's salary, it was a good job. Doesn't mean I didn't want something paid/better paid in the long term.
Maybe your son is telling you the truth, but he DID have a choice. He didn't HAVE to opt for private treatment. And Sorry to break YOUR bubble!
