Does anyone know where or how I can find out what insurance group cars fall into? e.g my current car (fiat 126) is group 2. I have looked on one site, but am sure its wrong as it classed my car a group 1, or do insurers have different categories?

Thanks in advance.

i found out that my escort was group 7 on the net , but was group 10 on the insurance so they seem to make thier own mind up
You will find variations, it appears different companies rate cars differently.
The ABI (Association of British Insurers) represents the collective interests of the UKs insurance industry.

Each popular new model of car launched in the UK is given an insurance group rating which insurers find helpful as one of the many inputs to their premium decision.

Insurance group ratings are purely advisory. They are used by insurers (ABI members and Lloyds syndicates) as one of the factors in calculating premiums. Insurers are not required to follow the advisory group ratings and they may depart from them if they so wish.

Thanks everyone, I tried Parkers 'spaced' and I though they were wrong. Nevermind, as 'Trotsky' says they seem to mkae their own minds up.
emma, its true - everyone seems to have their own perception to what car goes in what insurance group. Personally i would say a small, cheap car like a fiat 126 would be group 1, at a push group 2.
