I was surfing the Freeview channels last night, and saw a premium rate number advertised that one could dial, starting 0008. Since it is outside any telephone numbering scheme I'm aware of I'm unsure how they arranged it, but it could be that your mystery number is similar. Maybe someone in your family opted to speak to a "young lady" at £1 a minute ?
