Does anyone know why Disney periodicaly withdraw certain films and re-release them a few years later - my wife is an avid fan and cannot get hold of Cinderella anywhere and it has apparently been withdrawn - is it something to do with managing supply and demand? Anyone have any ideas where I could get one from? DVD Please.

I'll attempt to tell you what I know rekstout, because I was also after 'Cinderella' and find it really infuriating the way Disney treats the public! They (Disney) withold sales for 3-5 years (I can't remember which one) of the most popular videos/DVD's to increase public interest - so after this time lapse we are so eager for these titles we rush out and buy them at the at full price (no special offers with Disney!) before the next withdrawal. Clever eh, maximum interest and maximum profit! Having said that I know I will still buy it when it's available.

Blast! I will have to try either the USA or Ebay - no joy on EBay yet and none of the online retailers seem to have any left either. I am in Disneyworld in June, I will have words! If I do source DVD in the uUK I will post here FYI Cetti
I distinctly recall that Disney used to say that certain videos would be available for a limited time only and Never Sold Again. The kind of thing that makes people buy the videos all at once. Of course, those lovely family-oriented people might have noticed that new formats - DVD etc - are always coming so they'll be able to flog the same material to the same customers again and again and again, doubtless using the same tactics until people catch on...

Mikewith, I remember hearing that comment about Beauty and the Beast Enchanted Christmas. Amazingly it appeared on the shelves this Christmas as well as last
I've also been told it is to give a new generation cahnceto grow up and not have seen manyofthem before...but basically it is of course to maximise their profits
It's not even available with the Disney on-line site, so I'm afraid you won't be able to buy it in the States. In fact the blurb that accompanies 'Beauty and the Beast' is 'Buy it before it disappears in the Disney vaults!". Interesting sales technique, eh?

I have registered an interest with Amazon.COM so I should be emailed when it is out Amazon.CO.UK didn't list it. Oh well, I'll just keep an eye out.
Disney produces The Classics for a short time and then they are put into retirement for between 5 and 7 years. In this time they movies are not manufactured, however, stores are still allowed to sell remaining stocks they may have (so its worthwhile trying stores with large stock rooms). The reason the classics are put into retirement is due to the high costs of constantly producing films, which do not necessarily have a large enough market to sustain sales. When films are re-released, they are usually re-mastered (improving sound and visual quality) or have extra scenes or songs added. [email address removed as per site policy. - AB Editor]
