Hi, can anyone help - How do you know when a battery has leaked and is there any danger if the fluid touches the skin, eyes or mouth?

Thanks!

Assuming you mean a torch / radio sized battery, the acid within is clear and midly corrosive - the battery may feel wet to the touch.

It is midly irritating to the skin, and should be washed off thoroughly with cold water if in contact with the skin. It will damage clothing, 'burning' holes in fabric.

Contents of some batteries are extremely harmful. Cadmium for instance is extremely poisionous which is why batteries should be disposed of properly.
