Tenrec....that's the man who sprayed WD40 under his arms and spent the whole day marching about.
Not really Tenrec. I use it regularly before any problem because I hate sticking curtains.

This is the first time i have cleaned them since i put them up. 18 years ago, this is a smoking household,so you can imagine how orange everything was. Anyway candle wax has done the trick according to no1 son. thanks to everyone for your advice.

two feathers, I am surprised that they didn't become brittle and just disintegrate if they had been up 18 years. Amazing.
Barmaid, we bow to your wisdom!
Mr Sheene works a treat Two.
twofeathers, I can't believe you have washed your curtains only once in eighteen years. I'm surprised that the plastic thingies didn't disintegrate when you flicked them out of the rail!

Tilly, youre not the only one,a few did break.
It's a well known fact that if your curtains have been up more than seventeen years you have to use Vaseline...other wotsits are available.
You can buy silicone curtain spray to lubricant plastic curtain rails.
