Luke 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

Matthew 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Not a spiritual person but just reminded me of Arthur Brown's 'Fire' ... "I am the god of hell fire!"
Well said, both naomi and chrisgel.

The trouble is that people like goodlife live such a religiously-fenced life that they are incapable of understanding those things that they themselves deem important and which are important. The requirement to believe in a god, regardless of all that is reasonable, slews their thinking all the time.

chrisgel @ The Bible was far ahead of the scientific conceptions taught at that time. In the 15th century before the Common Era, it described the Creator as “hanging the earth upon nothing,” and in the eighth century B.C.E., it spoke of “the circle of the earth.” (Job 26:7; Isa. 40:22) Is that not exactly how the earth appeared to you on your television screen when the astronauts photographed it from the moon?and went did science comes up with it.
Goodlife......Nice try with the apologetics. Is that really a description of the earth.
Hanging from nothing/A circle. It sounds to me just like the sort of campfire chat that some goat molesting ignoramus would have 2000 years ago.
Hardly a scientific description of the true state of things and lets not forget how the bible "discovered" that devils and evil spirits caused illness and death.
This attempt by the religious to re-interpret your holy books every time science makes a new discovery is pathetic.
Goodlife, I should steer clear of extolling the virtues of biblical science if I were you. You’re treading on very unsteady ground. The verses you quote:

Job 26:7: He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

Isa. 40:22: It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.
Goodlife - “... We live in a God-dishonoring world in which teachers of false religion, as well as agnostics and atheists, mock the Creator...”

It always intrigues me why people like yourself like to take offence on God's behalf. If He's so offended by agnostics, atheists and followers of 'false' religion, why doesn't He do something about it? I mean, it's not as if He's incapable is it? Being the ultimate Creator, He could simply make those who mock Him vanish into thin air but He consistently and overtly fails to do so, leaving it to the likes of you to fight His battles for Him.

He certainly moves in mysterious (and entirely invisible) ways. It's almost as if He isn't there at all.
Goodlife - “... The Bible was far ahead of the scientific conceptions taught at that time. In the 15th century before the Common Era, it described the Creator as “hanging the earth upon nothing,” and in the eighth century B.C.E., it spoke of “the circle of the earth...”

Not true I'm afraid. It was well established that the Earth was a sphere around the eighth century BCE so mention of that fact in the Bible simply reflects the accepted wisdom at the time. It does not pre-date it as you have quite wrongly suggested.

As for your fifteenth century quote describing the Creator as, “... hanging the earth upon nothing...”, I'm unsure as to what you think this proves. Since it was well established by that time that the Earth was indeed a sphere, what precisely do you think the people of the time imagined the Earth to be doing? Rolling around on a piece of celestial wood? Clearly, most people were aware that it somehow 'hung' in space and believed it to be at the centre of the known universe but they (like the Church) had no idea about the real truth - the Earth follows a curved path around the sun because the sun bends space-time around it.

You join a long line of people who mistakenly make the claim that their particular holy book is a repository of scientific knowledge that is only now being recognised. The problem with this claim is that it is easily refuted and demonstrably untrue.
You're taking it all too literally mib.
