I have read the other threads regarding this however, none are clear on my situation. Currently living with the inlaws and daddy inlaw is a nasty piece of work(being polite) and a drunk. I had my suspicions he was tampering with my mail and today I have got proof. I was out, mail addressed to me arrived, he was the only one in the house and sober so no excuse. He ripped it up and put it in the bin, one of the letters contained a cheque, now ripped up! We found the mail in the bin! I am really angry about this for obvious reasons, I am here for 2 more days so can't expose or I will be out (not an option). It is my intention to report this to the police, is it worth it? We have been nothing but polite and considerate to him so for him to do this underpins what a nasty man he is.

The CAB office believe this situation is a breach of the law: http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/wales/consumer_w/consumer_post_e/consumer_problems_with_post_e/consumer_problems_with_post_delivery_e/youre_receiving_someone_elses_mail.htm The law in question is presumably Section 84 of the Postal Services Act 2000, which can be...

All quiet, mail arrived and not ripped up today. We are putting this down to the fact his wife (MILaw) in the house. She is just as bad but when away from him is more normal. My wife has attempted to arrange lunch with her to discuss (not disclosed yet) however, she has said she is busy. We will give it one more try tomorrow, failure will result in me going to the police and pushing it all the way, I am conscious of the fall out however, he deserves it. Success is firing one across his bows making him aware of his actions and he can't sit there being as smug as he is and I have confirmed that he is a nasty, vindictive piece of work. Further up date tomorrow. Wish me luck.
How was today?

Thank you to one and all. The other half had a meet with her mum, didn't last too long as she refused to accept that anything was wrong!! Gave her 1 last chance the next day and advised her that HE should get in touch and justify/apologise. Fortunately for him he did. The apology was rather insincere however, I know he would have chocked writing it. His only excuse was that he was angry. We are still at a loss as to why. They can't or wont explain. I am just waiting for their next episode that will impact in our life, I wont be as forgiving the next time.
