I've just replaced my exisitng DVD ROM unit and replaced it with a DVD RW unit on my desktop and I've noticed that there are 2 sockets at the rear, one for analog audio (4 pins) and the other for digital audio (2 pins) this might seem a silly question, but is there any advantage between the two, as my DVD ROM unit had previously been connected via the analog socket....

Provided your soundcard also has an internal digital audio input (SPDIF) it provides a means of transmitting the audio without the need of conversion to an analogue signal.
