Can anyone give me hints and tips on getting close up shots of ceramics and china? Evereything seems to be a bit fuzzy, is it the camera, or is there a way of getting more detail? I want to sell some china on eBay and the photos aren't too good.

It may be that the camera cant focus as you are too close. The best bet is take it far enough away to be clear and then crop the picture to the right size.

Some cameras have a Macro facility to allow you to take close ups. Has your camera got this?

It makes the lens work like a microscope.

If it has not got this you may be in trouble. Most cameras are not able to take close ups with a general lens.

If it is an auto camera you may not be able to override the default camera settings. If you can set the camera to manual mode you can change the depth of field to get close ups.

Thanks. vicars, I will try your tip first as I am not too technical, then vehelpfulguy I will try to find the instruction manual and see what it says. Thanks again ! Any more tips out there ? :-)
if there's a dial or button for the macro function on the back of your camera, it's often represented by a flower symbol. if you use it (if it has it), make sure it's fully zoomed out too.
