What information are you wanting dotty?
The shoeing smith was born in Bradford.

well I'm not sure what these records could have, if it was later it would have age description enlistment and home address plus date of birth but possibly they are enlistement into the Union (or confederate ) army and so maybe very little! He may have enlisted at Bradford I guess, but he was definately born in Tod (well Stansfield) and he was dead by 1863.
It actually gives very little information dotty. The one who may be yours (going by his regiment) is

First Name(s):Thomas

Last Name:Binns

Number:501

Rank:Private

Unit:84th Foot (York & Lancaster)

Regiment Stationed at:Manchester & Aldershot

National Archives reference:WO12 / 8791

ahhhh, that may be useful spotting him on the census, thanks! It's my great aunt's son's paternal great grandmother's first husband who died when she was 24 and only been wed 4 years. I'll see what turns up, thanks for that.
Question Author
I think I have eliminated that one craft as he was born in the wrong county. Trouble is he is missing from the 1851 where his father and brothers are which makes me think he was already enlisted before his 1857 marriage.
Question Author
actually no I've found him on the 1851 with his parents, the other is his grandfather who had the same name as the father, Abraham.
Question Author
I've found him in Salford Barracks with the 84th regiment on the 1861 I think
