I have one toe nail (the small toe) that grows its nail so thick that I cannot cut it with clippers. It seems to grow thicker rather than longer. I once cut most of it away with no sensation but it has grown back. No other toe nails do this.

My little toes also grow thicker-but also long like the others. Is it an age thing,I wonder.
My little toes are like that and they are also curled up like sleeping piglets, helping me to achieve extra-wide feet. I use a good nail file and just file the whole thing down to a stump, across the whole nail not just the end part that you would normally file.
I had one like this. When I saw the doctor she diagnosed a fungal infection and I spent a few weeks on tablets. It still over-grows but it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be.
