the forums are ignoring this,so please make some difference!! please show women as normal
It may well have taken the intervention of the Saudi royal family to ensure this vile man remains in prison, but this case has caused an outrage in the middle east and at least they did intervene and have started some tentative steps in setting up some child protection lines. I know this is woefully inadequate but for a country like Saudi Arabia it is a massive step, and must be as such however much we might wish them to catapult themselves towards our way of thinking they wont, it will be a very long process for women and girls to achieve an equal status there, and tragic though that is we must be patient.
this is their type of justice, vile which ever way you look at it.

what you should be more careful of is them bringing their justice to this country.

It IS a real threat.

A case of get your own house in order first before telling others what to do.
I think it has more to do with going against what the law dictates, rather than mattering. The top of the elite chain has that sort of persuasion.
This is progress. Really it is. The whole world is beginning to speak out in opposition to the more unsavoury aspects of Islam, and as a result, change is slow, but it's happening.
YMF, do you really worry that child rapists might be let off with a fine, women not be allowed to drive, adulteresses stoned to death, people beheaded, thieves mutilated, and men divorce their wives (of which they have three) by saying 'talaq!' thrice, in this country?

If not , which parts of Islamic, Sharia, law and "justice" do you fear will come to this country (and why?)
sharia law is already here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16522447
it could be the thin end of the wedge, it's just a short step to "persuading" the islamic community not to involve the UK legal authorities in matters that concern only muslims. if these sharia councils were already hearing serious matters, eg, deciding to release child rapists on payment of blood money, how would UK authorities know?

They wouldn't.
Scary thought.
If anybody decides not to report that their child has been raped, the authorities wouldn't know any more than if a devout Muslim didn't report it.
What a disgustingly foul, barbaric, and perverted society it must be to allow this kind of thing to happen in the first place.
If this royal intervention represents the beginning of progress, it can't come a day too soon.
Saw this too. Obviously to be welcomed is the intervention by the Saudi Royal Family to overrule the judgement from the original trial and to ensure that this preacher will spend a significant amount of time in jail.

Not sure that it represents the beginning of the enlightenment just yet, unfortunately. They have done nothing to put in motion a review of the laws that allow father to kill daughter or husband to kill wife with impunity.

The only reason they acted, it seems to me, was because a snall internal group of protestors used social media and other avenues. The story went viral, and international, and the country was roundly condemned by the international community for barbarism and injustice.

This suggests PR and crisis management to me, by the House of Saud - not a genuine recognition of the failings of their legal system and an earnest desire for reform......

Agreed LG. Still, I guess we have to take the fact they've been embarrassed enough to do something about this individual case as a positive.
how many more slip through the net though
