have just bought 2 pairs, one for each of us who are flying, and my friend who did travel business class said that hers were free.
Were not business class though, so presume we did have to buy our own.
well if you have them already, it doesn't matter i guess - you can just wait till you are on the flight and see
I would guess it's a business class perk only. You wouldn't believe some of the free stuff that gets given to business and first class passengers on scheduled long haul airlines.

Thanks for replies Abers.
Just seems a shame that I've already bought them.
Better to be on the safe side than not have any to wear when on the plane x
I think fright socks are only available on scair zimbabwe

I have just checked with my friend who is an air hostess with Emirates. She says that in Business class they give out nice cosy socks (so not flight socks) and in First Class they give out slippers aswell. Economy is on request, so you get a little pouch with slippers and eye mask. Also on request is toothbrush and toothpaste.
So long as you get up and walk around every now and again you don't really need flight socks, you just need to keep the circulation going. The air crew don't wear them!

Thanks spudqueen. was wondering about tooth brush and paste as i know you cant take paste on the plane.
I'd hate to go all day without cleaning my teeth. Thanks abers x
I wouldn`t worry too much about the flight socks. Get yourself an aisle seat so that you can get up and have a walk around once in a while. When you are sitting in your seat you can rotate your ankles every now and again which will get the blood flowing. I`m not sure how effective flight socks are to be honest. Our Aviation Medicine department doesn`t seem to have a really strong view on them TBH which means they are a "nice to have" but not a "must have"

Thanks 237sj.
Every bit of advice is very welcome!
All this enquiring and our holiday will be over in a flash x lol
The thing is, "Economy Class Syndrome became a buzzword in the press and not an awful lot was known about it in those days. Then more was known about it and it became not about travelling on aircraft but being stationary in a seat (whether that was a seat on an aircraft, bus, train or at home). The DVT risk seems to arise when there is pressure on the underside of the thighs between the knee and the hip. Pressure in that area can impede the flow of blood into the lower legs so in that instance, flight socks won`t make much difference. If you can raise your legs a little while you are sitting in your aircraft seat, you will take the pressure of the back of your thighs and help the blood flow to your lower legs.
You should be able to take toothpaste on the plane, as long as it's not more than 100ml and it's in a resealable plastic bag
