Taking All The Wrapping Off Items Whilst At Till!

I was in a huge Tesco's and the woman in front of me decided that she didnt want to take home all the plastic packaging/wrapping on all her fruit and veg and so while she was waiting in line she unwrapped it all - bags of carrots, apples, the lot! then when she got to the till she just handed the empty packaging with the barcode on to the cashier to scan, and said that she refuses to take home unecessary plastic etc. Well the cashiers face was a picture. She was trying to round up all this loose fruit and veg and it did hold up the queue for a bit.

So do you think 'good for her', for trying to do her bit and not take home all this endless wrapping or do you think she was being daft and a bit petty?

fair play - i forget we are only talking about fruit / veg , here
do you bloody mind, we are not all like that, i use logic in life, and assumed that this woman didn't.
Selfish and petty, what's wrong with the loose fruit and veg?
seems very selfish when people are waiting behind her. why didnt she pay for everything then remove the packing, and put it in the bin in the shop.
excus the typing. doing this one handed on way home frm work
RocW ... think you might have started something ...
Yes I do think 'good for her'.
It irritates me no end when I go into a shop with my daysack over my shoulder and have to say 'don't give me a bag please' over and over again.
Another thing I do is to use the brown paper bags provided for loose mushrooms to pack toms etc. in , always remember to tell cashier then you are not charged for mushrooms lol
Answerprancer- you'll be surprised at the number of people who have shoppers/bags (often appearing empty) who want carrier bags in shops.

Where I work we have to ask if they want a bag or not,and the amount of times ive been told "yeah, as im shopping elsewhere as well."
Great idea - have toyed with doing the same myself. However, I'd have left the packaging in the otherwise empty shopping trolley having emptied it all before putting it in my car, and thus not angering the other shoppers. I NEVER use the loose bags, preferring to put stuff straight into my very robust large shopper. Let the supermarkets pay for the removal and they will soon cut down ont he amount they generate needlessly.
AP, but the point is she didn't buy loose goods, but ones that were heavily packaged, then stood in a queue and removed all the packing, why?
OK, its a fair point that there is too much packaging. However, if she was that concerned about being environmentally friendly she would have bought from a farm shop that specialises in local produce and put it all loose into one reusable bag. The fact that she went to Tescos and bought fruit and veg that has probably been shipped halfway round the world, covered in all types of pesticide and then refrigerated for weeks and THEN chose to buy the prepacked rather than the loose stuff tells me that she is a bit thick and a bit up herself.
just daft more like, i haven't ever seen anyone do that i must admit..
it's why i use the market, don;t have the problem of excess packaging, nor irritating customers... x
