Constant Foot Pain.

Last friday during a long day at work i developed foot pain and it has been constant since. i think i may have Plantar Fasciitis after wearing boots with little foot support all week due to the snow.I've never heard of this before but that seems to be the answer after a quick google.
The pain is all around the arch of one foot and when i walk i feel like i want to avoid putting my foot flat to the ground. I've been taking painkillers which ease it and i have gone back to wearing my shoes which give much more supportive to the foot.
The pain doesn't seem to be easing off so I'm wondering how long this will last and should i go and see my GP. I think he may just tell me to rest and take ibuprofen. Any advice gratefully received.

Just a quick question.....is the pain relieved by removing your shoes?

and i would agree with him.

My Mum suffers with Plantar Fasciltis so I know how how painful it can be. Definitely go and see your GP. If it continues he will arrange for you to go to the hospital and have injections in your foot which will ease the pain significantly. In the meantime, get yourself some sturdy footwear and also get yourself some inserts which will support the arch of your foot.

My foot is fine when I wear a good pair of trainers. Rohan have a series based on the Brasher boot and they lifted the pain of p-f completely for me. I walk at least 6 miles a day with the dogs and no trouble. They are expensive but cheaper in the regular sales Rohan does.

Sorry for another quickie....by "arch" do you mean heel or ball of foot?

it feels a tiny bit worse with shoes on sqad but the pain is there all the time with shoes or without ,resting or standing and worse when walking of course.

around the inner part of my heel and all around the area (is it called your instep or arch) the part of your foot that doesn't touch the floor unless you have flatfoot.
OK..thanks.....then I agree with the post of Madmen....it does sound like Plantar fasciitis, but my initial post remains unammended.

thanks madman. from what i can see it will take a few weeks to improve . no point bothering the doc for him to tell me the same.
If you have Plantar Fasciitis then it won't just get better by itself. You would need treatment, and hopefully before the pain becomes unbearable and you find it difficult to walk on it. I strongly suggest you go to your GP. You won't be bothering him, that's what they're there for :-)
I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis 2 years ago and it can be absolute agony.
Exactly! It won't just "improve".
Some days it feels like ive been shot in the heel when i stand up. I had a hospital x-ray confirm mine.
I too was diagnosed with it - I was referred to the Scholl centre where I was measured for special insoles for my shoes - they are half the length of my feet, and are made from rigid plastic. They cost me about £40 ten years ago and they have been fantastic. I use them constantly for work as I am on my feet all day long. They take a bit of getting used to though, they made my legs ache like mad at first but I wouldn't be without them now. Good luck xxx

It is horribly painful. I had a nurse at the hospital diagnose mine (she said she could feel it by how tight it felt). She advised inserts and exercises and making sure I had decent footwear.

I got some trainers with a very rounded cushioning rounded fitflop type (?) sole, the ones which are meant to tone your legs. They were great and helped stretch the muscles out.

I used to do a lot of little exercises too like standing with my toes on the bottom step of my stairs and gently rising up and down to gently stretch the muscles out.
