My friend acquired a small ginger kitten for Christmas and has called it the daftest name I ever heard. I will not state what is in case she or her family are reading this and I would prefer to keep my identity private.

tonyav, I've heard the joke about cooking fat, also. Tell everybody the background story about a cat with that name.

My friend had cats Benson & Hedges.

My cousin had dogs Frankie & Benny (he still has Benny)
One of our cats is called Crumpet
My son, aged about 10 at the time, called his kitten Percy, it turned out to be a girl but the name stuck!

I will now confess for those who are interested that my friend has called her kitten Brian. I thought it was a daft name for a cat but I see from another poster on here that they have also chosen the name Brian. I always feel that to call a cat in from the garden etc, or anywhere it is hiding it seems right to have a two syllable name like Benjy, Mitzi etc. calling it in a sing song voice with the lasy syllable rising in pitch and then tailing off. However I remember calling Rupert at the top of my voice in the dark so maybe I am also daft.
When I lived in Huddersfield there was an older lady who lived a few doors down who had a pet fox called Mr Simpkins.
Mind you her house was called 'Twitts Ghyll'.....
My mother had a cat called Coriander.
