I bought my son the crazy frog racer game for christmas for his ps2, when he tried to play it the console it had real trouble reading the disc and the music on the game keeps breaking up (sometimes it just said disc error or insert a playstation disc). I assumed it was the disc as his other games play fine(all originals i may add we have not been modified). after replacing the disc back at the shop it does the same thing, i have noticed the disc itself is blue in colour rather than the silver that his other games are could his console just need a good clean or are they printed on some kind of new disc? (please dont take the p about the fact i bought the crazy frog game he asked for it santa delivered almost)

Hi Texol. How old is your son's Ps2? I may be wrong but I have heard from many friends about new games not working properly on the older consoles. Personally Gran Turismo 4(?) and Need for Speed most wanted did not work on my console (they worked to some extent, but often crashed, no sound etc) I have a friend with the new smaller PS2 and both of my games worked fine on that one. I am sure it is sony's way of making loads of money because if my theory is true everyone will have to upgrade their console (buy it again) if they want the new games to work.
the underside of a ps2 disk is always silver. you may get the odd purple, but it should be silver. the underside of a ps1 disk is black. where did you get it from? they don't have new blue disk's and i dought that it's the age of the ps2. at the top of the box do's it say ps2 or pc or whatever. anyway, i think that the one you have is a fake copy or something just placed in the real crazy frog box. if you got it from ebay, could be fake, if you got it from some block from off the street, defilanly fake. from a shop that every one trusts, real. if it is real and brand new, send it back and get it replaced. reneber, cheake for authentisaty. know if a gamer is in your area? get him to look at it. still not sure? get another one and compare the two.
Laura: no, I'm sorry but that's complete rubbish. They may be bad (Sony's rootkit comes to mind), but they aren't quite that bad yet.

texol: do you have a CD lens cleaner thing for your hi-fi? It's one of those CDs with little brushes on the underneath that cleans the lens for you. Try doing that, it may just need a little bit of cleaning.

otherwise, take the game back, tell them it's faulty and get a new one. you're quite within your rights, as it could be that disc that's a little faulty.
Hi, I am also having trouble playing some new games and DVDs on my sons playstation although a couple do work.( pro evolution and Fifa 2006) Old games play OK.All the discs I am having problems with work perfectly well on my other sons PS2 which is a slightly newer one although not the slim line version. I contacted Playstation today who said try cleaning the lense and suggested that some discs play at faster speeds so the dust may affect some but not others. They were keen to offer me a reconditioned playstation with a 3 month guarentee for 55.00 ( they would take mine in return) Seems Strange!
Blue disks have always been a problem with ps2s. Basically all you should hear is the sound of the disk rotating - a moterised wuring sound. If there is no clicking sound then you just need to leave the ps2 switched on in a warm room for a couple of hours - there is condesation on the lens If you hear clicking or grating sounds its time to get it repaired or get a new one. Cleaning ps2s doesn't do a thing apart from giving internet forums something to talk about!

Many new games do this and there is nothing wrong with the disk, it is purley double density data due to the qulaity of games getting better and more data stored on the disk. Your problem will be a dirty lens, which is easily solved. Disconnect all power from PS2, remove cover. Inside you will see where the dics goes into the machine, in the middel of that area is an arm with a small round lens (1/4" diameter), this is what needs cleaning. Do NOT use any cleaning agents etc, just get a dry cotton bud and wipe the lens clean. That will do the trick. Works every time, it is caused purely by a build up of dust etc which you will see all pver the inside of the machine when you open it.
